History of Hotelly- compare prices from different hotels

Hotelly.com was founded in February 2000 and was purchased by Interactive Corporation in 2004. Original financing was obtained from Flagship Ventures, the Bollard Group and private investors. IAC spun off its travel group of businesses under the Expedia, Inc. name in August 2005. In July 2008, Hotelly.com bought Virtual tourist, a travel website with over 1 million registered members.

Hotelly.com operates nine other travel-related websites, including Virtual tourist, Cruise Critic, Seat guru and TravelPod.

Hotelly.com has been criticized for allowing reviews to be posted by anyone about any hotel, without needing supporting evidence. In response, they claim that all reviews are moderated by their staff, and they have algorithms to detect abuse. A Hotelly.com employee has also stated in the following thread on Hotelly.com that their employees investigate reviews that are reported as being fraudulent or suspicious but will only remove these reviews if they find evidence "that the author has committed fraud or otherwise abused [their] posting guidelines."

Hotel Reviews - Trust Video Reviews of Hotels

People often read hotel reviews posted on various websites before really booking them for their next holiday trip. But, what would you do if the hotel that got excellent reviews and you decided to check in turned out completely different from what you read online? The situation is not very uncommon and this is what happened with Peter D'costa of New Delhi, who trusted the hotel reviews he found at one of the popular online sites. After all, the site had declared those reviews of hotels, resorts and vacations unbiased and real, and he believed that they came from fellow travelers like him.

Reading reviews of Hotels before booking them for the next trip, seems to be a perfect idea. However, you need to be very cautious explains Vishal Jain, Manager at hotelly.com, a price comparison site that posts user reviews in form of videos, "It is very much possible that hoteliers, in order to ensure positive comments about their properties, encourage guests to post positive reviews to posting glowing reviews themselves under fictitious names."
It is, therefore, not surprising that Peter, after a disappointing stay at a London hotel that got glowing reviews, is having second thoughts about the authenticity of reviews at the site. He, now, suspects that some reviews he read might have been planted by hotel personnels looking to boost business.

Vishal says that it is wise to look and trust video more when looking for hotel reviws. When you view video reviews, you watch that is real and you trust. Travelers would shoot what they see; even hoteliers would avoid uploading unreal videos.

Hotelly.com, is a price comparison site that posts user reviews in form of videos. Visitors can research, watch video reviews and compare prices to establish the perfect holiday choice. Hotelly.com brings together all the resources of the web in one place and provides full financial protection for any item brought via the site at no extra cost. Hotelly.com provides independent and unbiased video tours, maps, descriptions and photography for all hotels, and a price comparison tool. The site has been developed to offer consumers a more rounded service bringing together user-generated reviews, video clips and price comparison.

Technology within the site includes a ValueFinder tool enabling customers to narrow down their search based on a number of criteria including price, location and star rating.
